NEWS: Centering Student Voices at the 2025 JED-SHEEO Convening
The Coalition for Student Wellbeing was proud to participate in the 2025 SHEEO-JED Convening, “Building Resilience and Success: State and System Level Innovations,” hosted by the JED Foundation and the State Higher Education Executive Officers Association.
Our Executive Director, Carson Domey, served as a panelist for the session “Student Perspectives on Navigating Mental Health on College Campuses,” alongside Hannah Corwin (Georgetown University) and Takira Walker (Howard University). The conversation was moderated by Martha Sanchez of the JED Foundation and focused on the current state of collegiate mental health and student-led efforts to improve wellbeing on campus.
Panelists shared insights on programs and initiatives that have helped foster a culture of support, both within institutions and in the communities surrounding them. Domey emphasized the importance of upstream strategies in shaping student mental health outcomes, including the potential impact of K-12 education policy. He highlighted efforts to incorporate mental health education into physical education curricula as one example of early intervention that can influence how students approach mental wellbeing later in life.
The coalition is grateful to the JED Foundation and SHEEO for their leadership in convening this important dialogue and for their commitment to uplifting student perspectives in shaping the future of mental health in higher education.
